Tulip Sox for Carol




originally, these sox were designed for the

Sock of the Whenever Project
the original kit used Cotton Fine by Brown Sheep
and had an Afterthought Heel
they were the Feb 2003 KIT

Lori Konopka helped with the stitch pattern
and with designing the original sox



The pattern was adapted for the Sock-a-Manic

“From the Heart Swap” for Carol Stone.

Women’s Med
Skill Level Intermediate

Gauge 8 st / in & 12 rows / in
# 2 needles or needles to achieve gauge
your choice – DPS, 1 or 2 circs
yarn = Koigu 2 - 50gm skeins
yarn needle for weaving in the ends


Abbreviations
sl1 = Slip 1 stitch as to knit
K = knit
P = purl
PSSO = pass slip stitch over {knit stitch}
YO = yarn over {wrap yarn over needle, will be knit in the next row}
K2TOG = Knit 2 stitched together
SSK = Slip first stitch as to knit, slip 2nd stitch as to knit, knit the 2 stitches together
P2Tog = Purl 2 stitches together
DC = K1, K2Tog, knit across to 3 stitches before end of needle, SSK, K1

Cast on 64 st loosely
Join, being careful not to twist
Knit for 10 rows
Work K2P2 for 8 rows

You may carry the pattern stitch down the instep if you desire

Work heel for 2 ¾ “{20 garter ridges} or desired length
ROUNDER HEEL TURN

Sl 1, P9, P2TOG, P1, TURN
Sl 1, K10, SSK, K1, TURN
Continue working one more stitch each row until all the stitches have been used worked.
GUSSET PICK UP
Pick up a stitch at each garter ridge, knit across insteps, pick up a stitch at each garter ridge, knit across heel stitches
Knit 1 round
GUSSET DECREASE
Starting at instep, knit across, on 2nd needle, K1, K2Tog, knit across to 3 stitches before end of needle, SSK, K1
Knit around
Repeat these 2 rounds till you have 32 stitches on each needleFOOTknit till 2 ½ ” shorter than foot length
